A bench designed for Cape Town Furniture Week 2025
For this project, I turned my attention back to past product. Exhibition pieces are so often seen and not experienced — admired at a distance, untouched, untested. I wanted the opposite.
At CTFW, Woodbender exhibited a bench that gathered past, present, and conceptual product into a single gesture. The once independent chairs became interconnected, forming a continuous seat — a place for visitors to pause, sit, and rely once again on a time honoured brand.
By orienting the chairs intentionally, the bench created unexpected interactions between old and new friends. It became a social hinge at the CTFW hub, a focal point where design history, contemporary craft, and future possibility met in one shared moment of rest.
